CITTA' DI POZZUOLI L'ANTICA PUTEOLI
Founded in 528 B.C. by a group of aristocrats of the Isle of Samo in the egeo with the name of Dicearchia meaning “fair government” it was then renamed by the Romans as “Puteoli” from the Latin name of Puteos (pit-well) due to the many surrounding mineral springs. It was the main port, military and commercial base for the Roman empire. It became a cosmopolitan city full of important work of art. The only city to have two amphitheatres due to the importance and richness of this city.
